#154 - I am back!

Vol.# 154

Thank you all for your prayers for smooth travel back to Canada!
I came in at midnight. My sister and nephew picked me up at airport and they were surprised at how quickly I came out!

When I left Orlando and went to check in, the security personnel said that you have pre-checked so you can go in the shorter line! When I got there I did not even have to take off my shoes at security or take out my electronic devices from carry on.

All was going smoothly until I passed through security electronic gate, and there was a 'ping' sound! Yup, I was 'chosen' to have full body scan! Yes, that was what the guard said, making it sound like an invitation!

I successfully passed the test and then headed off to find the 'gate' where I would board the WestJet plane. Unfortunately, the gate number was not on my boarding pass and when I asked the airport personnel, he said, “Mmmm but it is there, Gate 4!” I said, “No, that’s my seat number! He just said, “Well, go that way until you see your airline!” I sent a quick prayer to God for me to find the gate and for the airline personnel.

All of this took 10 minutes from the time I got to airport to the gate. It took 40 minutes when I was entering the USA from the Canadian side and only 10 minutes when I left!

When I got to Toronto, I had an 'angel ' who helped me with the machine when it could not read my passport. Yup, I had to choose the machine that was not working properly! But again I sailed through and when I got to the baggage pickup, my suitcase was just coming out on the belt.

I am very grateful to all of you who prayed for my brother and his family in the midst of the hurricane. We were part of the 1/3 that had power and no flooding whilst others still had not had power restored yet!

#153 - A helping community and flight rescheduling

Vol.# 153

There we were, my brother and I picking up branches and trying to clear the leaves etc. from the sidewalk and street in front of the house, when a neighbour approaches and offers a larger garbage bag, and then stoops down and helps me to clear the area!

Then her two friends came over and started to help as well.
The two friends were visiting from Germany and it was also their first hurricane experience.

Then another neighbour comes along to help with his family and his mower!

God sent 'angels' to help us and I am so thankful!

I just thought of Esther from the Bible and the timing of her reign as 'queen' and her influence to save her people from sure death, and I am thankful for such a time as this that I am here in Florida with my big brother to hopefully be a help!

The wind has died down and it is sunny once more!

I just received a call from the airlines. My flight has been rescheduled again to 13th.

Prayer Request: Please pray that the details for my flight return will be smooth!
Thank you

#152 - Safe!

After  a near sleepless night listening to the sound of the wind howling and watching to see if the rain would bring flooding here, I can say, "Praise God we are safe here!"

There was no flooding and we still have power here in our part of neighbourhood. My brother lost part of the fence in the backyard, and there are fallen branches and a small tree uprooted. We are under a curfew until 6:30 this Monday evening. Winds are still gusting up to 20 mph down from 100 -110 mph last night.

As I looked at the trees bending, and the sound of the wind so loud, I marvelled at His power!
Thus far my flight has been postponed to Tuesday to return to Toronto, but all travel is still suspended right now!

Now the clean up begins!...

Prayer request
Please pray for those who still do not have power, and whose homes were flooded, and for safe travels back!

Thank you!

#151 - Hurricane Irma!

Vol.# 151

Yes, we are in Florida!
We just came driving back from the Keys where the evacuation for Hurricane Irma has begun. They have started to close the schools, and water and gas are already in shortage where we are right now! Today my big bro and I will begin the drive back to Orlando where he lives.

Prayer Requests
  • For patience and safety as we go because so many are already leaving this area to go to other parts of Florida.
  • That we may be tools of peace to others who are worried about the impending hurricane!

Cool God thing
As I ate my brekkie I noticed an older gentleman who was reading His Bible. Then his wife came and sat by him and as we all watched the news about the hurricane, I said, “Well, God is in control” and the wife said, “Amen sister!” Then we started to talk. This couple had been missionaries in Italy for over 30 years; the husband is still involved in Prison Ministry and the wife was in Youth For Christ. The wife asked what I was doing and then she called me over and they both prayed for me there and then in the mini cafe! SWEET! Only God can ordain that moment!

I am off now to finish packing here.
It was nice to meet up with former Trini neighbours, who are like family, my big bro's friend for over 50 years!

#150 - The Choir Director

Vol.# 150

I had asked a few of you for prayer for safety and smooth sailing as I went through American Customs on my way to spend time with my older brother and my nephew and niece in Florida.
Thank you to I and R for not only getting me on time to the airport but who also made sure I went to the right counter and got my boarding pass etc..

It was the smoothest entry into Florida yet, although I should have asked prayers for finding the gate, and figuring out the dryer in the washroom at the airport!
Seriously, you would think that if the soap and water dispenser is electronic, logically the hand towel machine would be as well! I was there waving my hand around as if I was directing a choir for over 2 minutes before I realized that it was a manual hand towel machine.
Thankfully there was no one else in the washroom at that time!

Today my brother's father-in-law and mother-in-law were speaking to me in Spanish and I answered back in Spanish and Khmer! LOL!

I am honoured to be here and very grateful that Our Lord has given me this opportunity.

Prayer Request: for continued safety as we travel and God fun opportunities!

I cannot wait to see you all when I return on the 11th!
