#107 - Exam Results and a Home Visit!

Vol.# 107

I passed the exam!
So thank you for your prayers!
I just wanted to let you all know!

I am now about to go and have part 2 of root canal done! Praise to Him for all that He has done!
For those of you who are keeping score on how I am doing: 20/20 for first part; 7/10 for listening /questions; 7/10 for writing in Khmer script (should have gotten 10 in this one but...); 6/10 in recognizing verbs and consonants (really was surprised that I got more than 3 correct! I'm just being honest!).
Overall they mark you using the range "poor, okay, good and strong!" I got okay for the fluency and pronunciation, so you see how much work I have to do as the level of learning grows higher!
However, I had a long talk with the director on dynamics within class. If you are paired constantly with one person who is weak in conversation, then your own skills will not improve! So my brain is fried!

I am glad to have 5 days off before the next module begins. Students who are in Level 7 and even the staff say it is the hardest of all of the levels, so that we should take a break before starting Module 5.

SO after Module 4 (hardest level),I will be coming back home to Toronto on June 26th (I leave here on the 25th) for about 5-6 weeks before heading back to Module 5!

Keep those prayers coming!

Dancing but maybe not singing after root canal! LOL!

#106 - Redemption and a Root Canal!

Thank you for your faithful prayers!

One of the couples in my class graciously gave me their 'how-to-study sheet!' David, the husband, had organized and printed out the consonants/verbs in such a way that it is organized, and I can follow and practise writing and reading!

I was struck today by the words 'redeem and redeemer' from Ruth 2:20, 3:11-13, and chapter 4, where Boaz redeems Ruth. I was praising and thanking God for giving me a purpose, value, restoring what the 'locusts have eaten', and yes, REDEEMING
I know that learning how to communicate in Khmer through speaking and reading is a powerful way of sharing His redemptive power: to pass on how much HE values and wants to restore broken lives, not only for native Khmer but also for expats!

I spent Friday morning with my classmates at the Royal Museum for cultural studies, looking at how much Hindu worship of gods have influenced Khmer culture. There are so many statues of Vishnu and Lakshmi but Buddha still remains the focus of worship for most Khmer!

As sweat poured down my back, we walked and saw powerful images of the past, and as I walked, I prayed that I would remember this and when I am moaning over consonants and verbs, this will keep me focused on why I am here!

Prayer request
I went to the dentist and will have to redo a root canal. I had it done last year, but it was not done properly. It is sensitive as nerves are exposed and there is a bit of infection. This new dental 'hospital' is extremely good and 4 of my classmates had gone to them. So next week after an exam, I will go to get it done. Pray for the dentist as he works on it next week!

Thank you for praying for my studies.
The extreme heat plus power outages here are not desirable circumstances for studying! I have had to change my times of study to when it is cooler. This weekend is pure study; and then Monday and Tuesday are review days.
I need more conversation/listening Khmer time!

Blessings to you all!
