#28 - Going Back!

Vol. 28

Going back!

Update on my Dad:

My parents came in last Tuesday to Toronto and were blessed with not only free tickets by our cousins back home, but also first class treatment on the airlines because of other cousins!
However, my Dad had breathing difficulties early Sunday morning and was rushed by ambulance to Sunnybrook Hospital where he still is, having lots of tests done. I know this is the best possible place for him to be and I am thankful for your continued prayers for him, for Mom who also needs care, as well as my sister and brother here.
My siblings away are grateful to you all for your support for our family here. Thank you.

I leave at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday morning. I fly to Seoul and then I have a short layover of 3 hours or so and then go into Phnom Penh. I get there Friday 8th at 10:30 p.m.

Prayer Requests:

-That all will go well at Canada Customs as well as Cambodian Customs. I have to get my visa when I get there.

-That luggage will arrive safely.

Pastor Sunder talked about the different ways we are wired for worship last week. I had to laugh since one person said, "I was wired alright!” I told Pastor Sunder it was interesting as he talked about the different forms of worship because the next night HE gave me picture of what I am supposed to do when I get in this weekend to Phnom Penh, the capital city in Cambodia. (See if you can see the various types of worship in the below passage!)

Scenario:

I would go up to the rooftop of Golden Gate hotel (the same hotel I stayed at in 2009 on first mission trip) and just be quiet, looking over at the lights and just being still. Then I would proclaim His Word from the rooftop (usually Isaiah and then Psalms) as I walk from the north, south, east and west part of the rooftop (no, it is barricaded so I WOULD not walk off the roof!!). Put on my music, the two songs He gave me, 10,000 Reasons and Where Would We Be by Matt Redman, interspersed with God of This City, and I can sing and yes, better believe it, dance!  He would allow me to see the darkness amidst the lights (night time is the time period I would be there).

At this point I know from experience that I would move to His righteous anger at the injustice occurring in this land and go into intercessory prayer.
The only solid ground on which I can stand to intercede on behalf of the Khmer people is based on His Word and His promises. My students, the boys and girls being enslaved, this is the exciting part which He has added. He will give me new ways of reaching/teaching English. I got a renewed vision of students marching out into the land.
He is carving out His plans and is allowing me to get a glimpse.

I knew as soon as He gave me this that it was just another confirmation of leaving my family, my community and friends here for the unknown. Yes, the unknown, since my housing accommodation has changed. The oldest students have moved into the city so my English speaking community at the orphanage has been drastically reduced!

Prayer request:

-That He would choose where I would be living; a place where others are welcomed. One friend said it could be a Vidya-refuge for others (expats as well as ex-teachers whom I knew from last year).

#27 - Prayer Requests

Vol. 27

Thank you all for your continued support as you walk and dance with me!

Dad: Still experiences discomfort as he recovers from the pacemaker surgery. They have detected gallstones. Please pray first for these to be crushed and to disappear, and for correct medical advice.

Mom: Please pray for His peace and strength as she continues to care for Dad.

This weekend of October 26/27, I will be sharing at RAC on the next steps as I prepare to go back to Cambodia.

Thank you.

#26 - Moving Forward

Vol. 26

Back on Canadian soil.
Thank you for upholding my family and me in your prayers.

As I was on the phone with my cousin in Miami, she asked, “Don't you think you should stay longer here in Florida?” That thought kept popping up in my mind, and as my brother and I drove together, I asked God for His sign, a fleece of what I should do. I asked for 'our' song to play on the radio and wouldn't you know it, as soon as I said that, the song came on the radio! How sweet is that! But it was with a heavy heart I left my brother, my beautiful niece and gifted nephew and returned here to Toronto.

On Sunday night we heard the news that Dad was rushed back to the hospital with a heart attack. Then began a vigil of praying, and no sleep. But I am again reading through the Scriptures and claiming His Word for my Dad to be healed and restored. He is now back home.

Praise: For the prayers of you all and the reconnecting of family through these past 6 weeks. Your prayers and encouragement have carried my family and me.

Prayer request: The fluid is still in Dad's lungs; he coughs a lot and cannot really talk for a long time. Pray for wisdom from the doctors to know what to do. He has been like that for over a month now.

Cambodia: On my way back here, in my reading in Isaiah 58: 11-12 about the Lord guiding me into a sun scorched land and He will strengthen me (I will let you read the whole thing yourself, it is so cool!!!) was an affirmation of His plan for me there.

Prayer request: For airline ticket and insurance to be finalized. To not worry over missing crucial details as I go back.

Thank you for continuing to pray and dance with me on this journey.

#25 - Back home!

Vol. 25

Thank you all.

Dad is back at home recovering. My sister, who is a nurse in England, flew down and so is able to look after him and Mom as well.

This Sunday, tomorrow, I will be going with my brother and his family to scatter Carmen's ashes at her bequest in the ocean.

Thank you all for your emails and prayers and words of encouragement.

Prayer request: For me to be open to God's ways to reflect His love to my family here in Orlando (I just want to love them up!).

Praise: My brother contacted a cousin about 3 hours away from here who works with an ophthalmologist and I got a free eye checkup. I was able to talk about His work in Cambodia to the doctor. I want to be able to look each student/kid in the eye and tell each of them how precious they are, and how sweet and awesome it is to be there to be part of His plan as His teacher.
I am getting pumped to be there.

#24 - God Continues To Show His Presence

Vol. 24

Thank you all for your prayers.

Update on my Dad: He had the pace maker operation on Monday. That surgery went well but my brother noticed that my father was in pain and having difficulty breathing, so he asked the doctors to investigate. Apparently, they had punctured his lung so he had to go back in. He is now resting comfortably at the hospital, weak, but recovering nicely.

Praise report: Because of your prayers, my brother, Vish, was able to see the condition my Dad was in after the operation and immediately advocated on behalf of my Dad. The nurses and care staff responded immediately and were 'angels'.

Prayer request: For Dad to continue to recover without complications, and for my Mom's health. It is not easy going to the hospital for hours each day.

Thank you also for your continued prayers as I spend time with my brother and my niece and nephew. I covet your prayers for His wisdom and words as I also meet and comfort my sister-in-law's family as well. This Sunday we will spread my sister-in-law's ashes in the sea as per her request. Can you please pray as He leads you?

Last Sunday at church here, the message was themed “Not a Fan: Follow Me”. The premise was to be a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ as opposed to one who will fall away when the going gets tough; about listening to His call to follow and be faithful, and according to Luke 9:23, to take up His cross. The song ‘O Master Let Me Walk With Thee’ followed this. This was an apt message for me, cementing my call to be at Place of Rescue in Cambodia.

Please let me know how I can pray for any of you. This is a partnership after all!
